Car Loan & Financing Guide - Get the Best Interest Rates in India

Simple guide to car loans in India: compare rates, estimate EMI, check fees, prepare documents and understand approval factors.

Car Loan and Finance Guide for India (2026)
A car loan helps you pay for a car over time. You repay the lender each month with interest. Your rate and loan amount depend on the lender, your income, credit history, the car, and other checks.
Car-loan rates
Rates change often. They differ by lender and borrower. An advertised rate is usually a starting rate, not a promise. Check the lender's official offer when you apply. Compare the rate, term, fees, insurance requirements, and total repayment.
Estimate your EMI
EMI means equated monthly instalment. A longer term can lower the monthly EMI, but it usually increases total interest.
Example: ₹10 lakh at 9% a year for 7 years has an EMI of about ₹16,100. This is only an illustration. Your lender may use different terms.

What lenders may check
• Age and identity
• Income and job or business history
• Credit report and repayment record
• Current loans and monthly obligations
• Car price, age, condition, and valuation
There is no single credit-score cutoff or income rule for every lender. A higher score can help, but it does not guarantee approval or a low rate.
Documents you may need
• PAN and another identity document
• Address proof
• Recent income records and bank statements
• Car quotation or invoice
• For a used car: RC, insurance, and valuation records
Costs to compare
• Interest rate and whether it is fixed or floating
• Processing and documentation fees
• Late-payment charges
• Part-prepayment or foreclosure rules
• Insurance and add-on products
Ask for the total amount payable, not just the EMI. Read the sanction letter and loan agreement before signing.
Before you apply
1. Set a budget for the EMI, fuel, insurance, service, and repairs.
2. Check your credit report for errors.
3. Compare two or three written offers.
4. Keep your documents ready.
5. For a used car, inspect the car and its papers before paying.
